Overall: -6 Passagesmalibu com customers & affiliates reviews, comments, possible complaints I BELIEVE PASSAGES IS JUST ANOTHER "Snake Oil" scheme to Get one's MONEY. I HAVE BEEN SOBER SINCE IN AA SINCE 1/1/1976, OVER 35 YEARS. AND, BEST OF ALL I HAVE NOT ONCE HAD DESIRE TO DRINK. I TRIED EVERYTHING BEFORE AA AND NOTHING ELSE WORKED FOR ME. I KNOW HUNDREDS OTHER THE SAME. THE AA PROGRAM IS A PROVEN FACT AND WORKS FOR ANYONE WHO (WANTS)TO STOP DRINKING. EVERYONE WHO ANYTHING ABOUT ALCOHOLISM KNOWS THE ONLY "CURE" IS TO TOTALLY ABSTAIN FROM USE...AA IS FREE. HJ

Passagesmalibu com customers & affiliates reviews, comments, possible complaints i am a meth addict with 34 years of useing and cooking meth. i have 14 months of sobriety thanks to a traditional 12 step program. my best friend and many members of her family have attended passages. they are native americans. i am not. i could not afford passages, and found the "gift of desperation" to be my most valuable asset in my recovery. to have lost everything. they on the other hand, thanks to theyre casino, will probably never lose the material things i did, however, they lost theyre sanity as i did, but have had it restored by the grace of God,and the program offered at passages. as i was, they were "hopeless" cases. as a result of treatment there, they are all transforming into wonderful, loving people with peace and serenity in theyre lives. isnt that what its all about? i dont think it matters how you get there, as long as you get there. and passages has helped them to do just that. i will continue with my method of recovery, but am grateful for theyres. thankyou.

Passagesmalibu com customers & affiliates reviews, comments, possible complaints Well, after reading book(alcoholism & addiction cure) I thought this is the PLACE! Michael Shanner was so nice when I called (more than once) after recording calls with all promises, I double checked with him that I was not being lied to to get my money. Been there done that with different Malibu facility. Well sure enough, as soon as my daughter got there all promises were off! Every excuse! I sent him a e-mail detailing the lies.(No other way to put it!) about 5a.m Hawaii time next day I get a call Passages Malibu (call ID) she is at facility in Ventura. My heart is racing, did she hurt herself? Why would someone call at this time? It is Michael Shanner! Are you asleep? he asked. I said yes, but what is wrong? He YELLS.. I am not a LIER! and slams phone down in my ear! How professional is that? There are some very nice people at Passages Ventura, Sherry, exceptional! Carlos, therapist very good, But buyer beware! Michael will promise, and tell you everything you want to hear, assure you website is correct, then all bets are off! You just bought a crappy timeshare! that is the feeling. Very little care for your feelings. Hope this helps someone. Crosby center San Diego is my recommendation. LMAui

Passagesmalibu com customers & affiliates reviews, comments, possible complaints I was not surprised when I saw the ad for Passages on TV. There are many people who make a living off others misery.
I have been sober in AA for more than 23 years.
It is sad that they need to denigrate AA to make a buck. If your method works fine. Our hats go off to you. I have met people in every walk of life and station in AA. Some stay sober and some don't. I can say for my self that AA has helped me find a path in life where I can finally be helpful and useful.
I have noticed though, that those who try to infuse AA with phycobabble and other "treatment" solutions have the hardest time.
Thanks to AA I can do what I want and go where I want as a free man. As a matter of fact my wife likes a drink once and a while so we keep liquor in the house.
I would suggest that anyone who wants to get sober take a look at the book "Alcoholics Anonymous" and read it then put the principals into action.
As a matter of fact the book can be viewed online, for free from the AA website.
Find a good "Big Book" group with some long term sobriety and see how they do it.
We are not a glum lot. We absolutely insist on enjoying life. We just abstain from alcohol in any form and help others.

Passagesmalibu com customers & affiliates reviews, comments, possible complaints I am interested in how Malibu describes their treatment. I am interested in an approach that treats the underlying causes. I read games alcoholics play and scripts alcoholics live and like Claude Steiner's approach.
I wrote Malibu and received a response that makes me think that they are probably doing some good things, but their focus appears to be more a business model than a treatment model. Are there any other groups that offer good treatment and that are not AA based?

Passagesmalibu com customers & affiliates reviews, comments, possible complaints I also suffered from a problem involving substance abuse and I for one have never believed in the AA approach but as you can see by the comments its almost like a cult. People are never powerless over their problems and I don't believe addiction is a lifelong never ending disease. Passages is one of the few programs I have seen that is based on a positive structure that actually addresses the real underlying causes of substance abuse.

Passagesmalibu com customers & affiliates reviews, comments, possible complaints Never been to Passages but if you want to get sober, you don't have to spend thousands of dollars so some guy who thinks he has the solution, can get wealthy. AA is pretty cheap counseling for a rich, life free of addiction. You, also, will never be lonely again. The only common denominator in these two treatments is the need for the desire to be free of addiction. As most of us true addicts know, there is no cure for addiction, only adstinence.

Passagesmalibu com customers & affiliates reviews, comments, possible complaints Wow. I can't believe what I am reading. Obviously not everyone can handle the AA way, and clearly Passages is perhaps over-the top in terms of overall expectations. But good grief. Did any of you read the end of his book? Who cares about the facility. Don't go. But how can anyone dispute the essential message that until the underlying issues are addresses and set free we can not recover? Sounds to me like at least there is insight to be gained by adopting your own life philosophy to move forward healthily. I've done AA. Now I'm struggling to get off of the doc's cure of Suboxone. I'd give anything to have the money to give this wise man a chance! Look within people- he can't do all of the work for you.
