Why is it named NitroSyn™?
NitroSyn is an acronym for Nitrogen and Synthesis. Nitrogen is the essential element provided by protein and only protein and is heavily involved in the synthesis of body proteins. Carbohydrate and fats do not contain this element, it must be provided daily to the body from protein. Synthesis is the process or production where parts or elements are combined to form a whole. In this case amino acids and peptides are synthesized into whole proteins. Proteins that form the structure of the body like your muscles, skin, and organs. So naturally a product that is designed to deliver high levels of nitrogen and promote protein synthesis should be appropriately named – NitroSyn™ Protein.

How is NitroSyn™ PROTEIN anabolic and anti-catabolic?
First you need to understand the difference and significance of anabolic verse anti-catabolic. Anabolic action refers to “building” as in an anabolic state. This means the muscle cells are in a positive nitrogen balance and receiving the necessary amino acids and other growth factors required for cellular growth and rebuilding. Anti-catabolic refers to the prevention of a catabolic state, or state of degradation. When the body is in a catabolic state the muscles are being broken down and the nitrogen balance is said to be negative. If something is described as anti-catabolic, then the action is to prevent a catabolic state.
New analysis of protein characteristics is now able to define or categorize proteins for their different anabolic/anti-catabolic properties. Different sources of protein have different characteristics and specific benefits. If the protein is absorbed rapidly into the blood stream and it delivers the amino acids and growth factors necessary to promote a positive nitrogen balance, then it is categorized as anabolic. Whey protein is a very rapidly absorbed quality protein source and is therefore very anabolic. The downside of whey protein is that the anabolic action is not long lasting. The blood amino acid levels climb rapidly for anabolic support, but then decline fairly rapidly. This means the anabolic action lasts just so long. Casein (milk) protein works just the opposite. Casein protein is slower absorbing from the stomach and small intestine so the blood amino acid levels don’t rise quite as rapidly. The slow absorption will help sustain elevated amino acid levels over a longer period of time. This is important because the steady replenishment of the free amino acid pool will keep the necessary nitrogen and amino acid components in a state of steady delivery to the muscle cells. So, you can now see that a blend of fast absorbing anabolic protein and a slow absorbing anti-catabolic protein is most desirable. A blend of anabolic protein for fast recovery and growth combined with an anti-catabolic protein preventing muscle breakdown.

What are the 6 stacked components of NitroSyn™ Protein?
The first stack is Whey Isolate Protein (WPI). Whey isolate is an extremely pure protein with the fastest absorption. Because the protein has been carefully enzymatically processed breaking the whole protein molecules down to smaller peptides (amino acid chains) this protein absorbs the fastest. It has been shown in clinical studies that peptides absorb faster than whole proteins that have to be further digested, and in many cases, faster than individual amino acids. The gut is designed to let the peptides pass through into the blood stream without any further digestion. Whey Isolate Protein is said to have the highest biological value (BV154) the measurement of protein absorption. This is a very anabolic protein and a very expensive protein source.
The second stack is Whey Concentrate Protein (WPC). Whey Concentrate is not processed as far as Whey Isolate. It contains larger molecules that are slightly slower absorbing than whey isolate. Whey concentrate has a biological value of 104. Whey concentrate is utilized for its complete whey protein amino acid and peptide profile. There are certain peptides that get broken down or processed out during the commercial processing of protein that are beneficial to the athlete. Whey Concentrate contains very high levels of peptides, called immunoglobulins, which are extremely helpful in supporting the immune system. This is very important for the hard training athlete as the stress from training can really tax (beat up) the immune system. Not to mention the fact that gyms are notorious germ incubators. Whey concentrate also contains a high level of nitrogen and BCAA’s (branched chain amino acids). The BCAA component is important because these are the amino acids used in the energy cycle providing support to the other carbohydrate and fat energy sources. BCAA’s need to be replenished in order to have optimum energy and power production. Whey Concentrate is an excellent anabolic protein that delivers the complete whey peptide spectrum.
The third stack is Calcium Caseinate. A complete protein source processed from cow’s milk. A slow absorbing anti-catabolic protein source that effectively replenishes the free amino pool over an extended period of time. Caseinates coagulate in the stomach so that the protein peptides and amino acids are absorbed more slowly through the gut. This anti-catabolic action helps sustain free amino acid levels in the blood providing a constant supply of nitrogen to the muscle tissue preventing a negative nitrogen balance and muscle wasting. This protein is a potent source of phosphopeptides, which are essential to calcium absorption supporting bone integrity and muscular contraction efficiency. This is an excellent anti-catabolic protein helping to reduce protein turnover and muscle loss.
The fourth stack is Egg Albumin. The “incredible edible egg®” continues to be the standard by which all proteins are judged because egg protein most closely matches the essential amino acid profile of human breast milk. Modern processing techniques remove the fat and cholesterol from the raw egg yielding a super high quality protein source offering a complete amino acid profile. Egg albumin protein is a rich source of bioactive peptides like ovalbumin 54%, ovotransferrin 12%, ovomucoid 11%, ovomucin 3.5%, lysozyme 3.4%, globulins 8%, and immunolglobulines with various immunity characteristics and functions.
The fifth stack is ColostraMASS™ (Bovine colostrum). Colostrum is one of the most significant protein sources ever discovered. It is secreted by the mother for a short time after giving birth. Colostrum contains the essential growth and immune factors the baby needs to effectively get a “jump start” on growth and immune defense against disease and sickness. Once the baby leaves the womb it is now exposed to the harsh environment of the outside world. The mother breast feeds the infant with colostrum rich breast milk delivering a high-octane boost of essential nutrients. In its purified form bovine colostrum provides optimum levels of powerful growth factors like IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor-1) a hormone that stimulates both the differentiation and proliferation of myoblasts (muscle fiber), while stimulating amino acid uptake and protein synthesis in muscle and other tissues. Colostrum is extremely expensive and extremely rich in essential nutrients. A powerful component in NitroSyn™ Protein that gives the hard training athlete a special edge not found in cheaper proteins.
The sixth stack is the Enzymatic Digestion Optimization System (EDOS). The EDOS blend is comprised of a proprietary combination of protease enzymes and a specialized probiotic (friendly bacteria). This EDOS stack helps insure that the protein is efficiently digested and absorbed. When you take in high levels of purified protein the stomach must respond by secreting enzymes to break the protein down and facilitate the absorption of the peptides and amino acids. If the protein passes through the stomach and small intestine without being absorbed it will go on through the digestive tract as waste. Underutilized protein can cause intestinal toxicity, bloating, cramps, gas and even diarrhea or constipation. The EDOS stack contains enzymes and a probiotic in a specific combination to facilitate the breakdown and absorption of high levels of proteins in the intestines and the maintenance of good digestive tract health. The more efficiently you absorb and utilize the protein the more anabolic growth will result.

Why a blended protein instead of a single source protein?
As we have described each type of protein offers a different property. Each has its benefits and each has its shortcomings. The most logical way to supplement protein is from multiple protein sources. Variety delivers the balance of peptides and fractions in the most efficient manner. Not only is the combination of anabolic and anti-catabolic important, but so is the individual amino acid profile. Each protein whether whey, milk, egg, or meat will have different amounts of each essential amino acid. Blending and combining different proteins insures the best profile for complete protein benefits. NitroSyn™ Protein combines all of the individual strengths of each protein into one complex stacked protein matrix.

Why doesn’t NitroSyn™ Protein contain soy protein?
We’re not going to bash soy here, but it’s not our favorite for several reasons. One, it is a lower grade incomplete protein that does not contain all of the essential amino acids. While there have been improvements with the development of isolates, soy still doesn’t stack up. Secondly, it contains high levels of isoflavones. Isoflavones in several studies have been shown to increase estrogen levels. A great benefit for some menopausal women to help balance their hormones, but it may not be so great for the serious bodybuilder. Many companies use soy isolate to raise the total protein levels and it does add some texture to the shake, but we are not interested in fillers. NitroSyn™ Protein contains only high grade muscle promoting proteins.

Why doesn’t NitroSyn™ Protein contain creatine monohydrate?
There are other proteins on the market that do. There is nothing wrong with them except that creatine should be cycled. So, how do you cycle off the creatine if it’s in your protein? Answer…you can’t unless you discontinue using the protein. If you want the cellular expansion properties and muscle strength benefits of creatine then buy it separately and add it to your protein or carbohydrate energy drink. Protein needs to be consumed every day. Adding creatine to the protein should be an option that can be omitted during a creatine off-cycle. Plus, it is probably much cheaper to buy creatine separately from you protein and make your own stack.

Why does NitroSyn™ Protein only contain 24 grams of protein per serving? The answer is simply in the scoop and serving size. Many proteins that boast 40-50 grams of protein per serving simply require you to add more powder in your shaker cup. Don’t just look at a products protein per serving look at the number of serving per container. There can only be so much protein per gram of powder so simply adding more powder adds more protein. NitroSyn™ Protein is 24 grams of protein per serving. If you want more, add more, it will just mean there are fewer serving in the container. The moral of the story here is not to get sucked in by the advertisements that boast huge amounts of protein per serving. All they are doing is giving you fewer servings per container. Even the highest grade isolate proteins are only 90-94% protein. So for every 100 grams of raw pure protein you get 90 grams of protein. Now add in flavors and sweetners and the numbers for pure protein per 100 grams of powder drop significantly. So if the protein is 50 grams per serving the total with flavors, sweetners, and emulsion (mixing) agents powder used is well over 50 grams. That means in a 2 lb. container there can’t be more than 15 to 20 servings. Get it…more powder equals more protein.
